{"id":741,"date":"2026-01-30T09:55:25","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T09:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bernicianstudies.eu\/?p=741"},"modified":"2026-02-02T08:22:52","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T08:22:52","slug":"2026-annual-general-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bernicianstudies.eu\/?p=741","title":{"rendered":"2026 Annual general Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">Summary of the minutes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>Bernician Studies Group AGM 2026<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">6.00 pm Room 1, Irish Centre, Gallowgate, Newcastle-upon-Tyne<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">We elected our <strong>Officials:\u00a0<\/strong>Chair Joy Rutter (JR), Secretary Sue Ward (SW), Treasurer Ray Shepherd (RS);<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">and our T<strong>rustees:\u00a0<\/strong>Joy Rutter, Sue Ward, Raymond Shepherd, Deborah Hancock, Dorothy Cowans, Alison Drummond Reddish and Hilary Rimmer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">The Research Directors remain Professor Diana Whaley, Colm O&#8217;Brien FSA and Max Adams<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">Among other things, we discussed:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">Suitable items to acquire with the \u00a3500 kindly donated by former Chair Jack Pennie.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">Field work for 2026 and possible topics for group meetings in the Spring.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>Field work projects planned for 2026<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">1 \u2013 <strong>Dere Stree<\/strong>t: Hilary Rimmer and others to examine sites along this Roman road, particularly those which might be pre- or post-Roman. To include mapping, LiDAR and a bibliographic search for previous relevant published studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">2 \u2013 <strong>Ancient Woodland<\/strong>: Dorothy Cowans and others, in association with the University of Newcastle, using Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) to examine the antiquity of boundaries at Hanging Leaves wood.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">Possible topics for meetings in Spring 2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">1 \u2013 <strong>Yeavering:<\/strong> updates on current work at the early medieval Ad Gefrin site near Wooler.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">2 &#8211; <strong>Place-names ending in \u2018tun\u2019:<\/strong> Further consideration of which \u2018tun\u2019 names might be \u2018purposeful\u2019.
