For several years members of the BSG have developed and maintained links with heritage groups in northern Donegal on both sides of Lough Swilly. There are strong historical ties with Bernicia. Saint Columba, or Colm Cille, was a native of North Donegal, and at least one 7th-Century Northumbrian king was probably born and raised on Inishowen.
The BSG has obtained remarkable results from a programme of geophysics, environmental analysis and map-based study which, in 2013, was supplemented by our first excavation there. The results of the 2012-2016 seasons’ work are summarised in the PDF files which may be viewed on the Donegal Reports page.
